Brava: Pró-Empresa trains 15 young people in issues related to sustainable fishing
A group of fifteen young people completed training today in “Sustainable use of fisheries resources in the field of fishing”, a training course promoted by the Institute for Business Promotion and Support (Pró-Empresa).
This training, which benefited young people from fishing villages, according to trainer Délvis Fortes, takes place at a time when there is a world-wide scenario where the reduction in catch is increasing.
According to the same source, behind this reduction are factors such as overfishing, climate change, and that it has not been possible to monitor their evolution in order to overcome them.
Hence, it showed that catches have reduced worldwide and Cape Verde is no exception.
Incidentally, according to the trainer, the problem becomes more pronounced for the country, since it is an island state in development, with several challenges, emphasizing that Cape Verde has a complicated scale to balance
First, he advanced that it is necessary to conserve resources to be able to enjoy them today and tomorrow and the second, to promote them in order to contribute to the country's economy, a balance that "is not easy".
Therefore, he underlined that where people manage to strengthen their skills and accessibility to support this management task, they always add one more point and contribute more and more to achieving what is desired, which is to see all citizens contributing to a sustainable management of resources.
For his part, Mário Soares, councilor responsible for Education, Training and Youth, congratulated the Pró-Empresa initiative for once again training the people of the island, taking into account the strong potential of Brava in the fishing sector.
Likewise, he recognized the effort of the trainees who started and completed this training course, which he considers to be a “positive sign”, and which demonstrates the engagement and commitment of these people with this training course.
Likewise, he highlighted that this training in the fishing sector also shows that fishing goes much further than capture and sale, justifying that there are several aspects in the fishing sector where people who deal with this sector on a daily basis have a lot to learn.
On the part of the trainees, Sónia Baptista guaranteed that she acquired much more knowledge in terms of fish, among others, highlighting knowledge in the area of fish processing, laws in the area of fishing and fish species.
Hélio Rodrigues, another trainee, showed that this training offered them a lot of information about fish, about the laws of the sea, the species and how the capture should be done, so that the species do not become extinct due to a capture. uncontrolled.
